🌍 A New Era: Queen Margrethe II's Vision for AI -and Our Call to Action πŸš€

As a Dane (living in Copenhagen), of course I will be bringing my kids to the historic event today, January 14th, where Queen Margrethe II of Denmark abdicates her throne after 52 years "on the job" and the new king is proclaimed from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has exemplified remarkable empathy and visionary leadership throughout her reign, deeply connecting with her people and inspiring positive change. Her insightful guidance has been a beacon of hope, fostering a compassionate and forward-thinking society in Denmark.

πŸ‘ΈHere is a female role model for our upcoming generations to take learning from -for a future of peace and compassion among us.

Surely your favourite news channel will bring the livestreams from my city of Copenhagen right to you and your family, where ever you are today. Great chance to discuss the human values and hopes for the future that you prioritize in your family. Good luck spotting me on your TV πŸ˜….

While you are watching, another fantastic female rolemodel to follow is Australia born Princess Mary, as she becomes Queen consort of Denmark today.

Today I was reminded of Queen Margrethe's profound New Year's Eve speech in 2023. In her address, she highlighted one of the most significant opportunities as well as challenges facing our world: the advent of Artificial Intelligence.

"Artificial Intelligence. A new technology that may change our lives in ways we can hardly imagine"

Her words, in the same address where she announced her abdication: "Artificial Intelligence. A new technology that may change our lives in ways we can hardly imagine," resonate deeply as we stand at the crossroads of a technological revolution. (continued below)

Queen Margrethe's vision and the impending integration of technology into our daily lives underscore the importance of preparing our younger generations. As Denmark gears up to make technology a mandatory school subject by 2027, we must ask ourselves: How is Denmark and all other countries equipping their youth for this AI-dominated future?

πŸ“£ This brings us to this Call to Action:

As of the latest information available, artificial intelligence (AI) education in schools is still an emerging field globally, with only a limited number of countries having developed and endorsed K-12 AI curricula. According to a UNESCO report, only 11 countries have established government-endorsed K-12 AI curricula, and an additional four countries are in the process of developing such curricula. This indicates a growing but still nascent focus on AI education at the K-12 level worldwide.

In terms of specific examples, China and the United States have been actively integrating AI education into their systems, albeit in different ways. China has been using its centralized authority to mandate AI education in high school curricula and encouraging AI companies to partner with schools and universities for student training. Since 2018, the Chinese government has approved 345 universities to offer an AI major. In contrast, the United States is taking a more decentralized approach, with varied AI education curricula and industry partnership initiatives across different states. This approach in the U.S. places a significant emphasis on computer science education and allows for greater experimentation and innovation in the development and implementation of AI curricula.

This research being done is a vital step in understanding the global landscape of tech education and preparing our future leaders to tackle the grand challenges of our time, including mastering AI.

To learn more, please reply to this email and tell me more about your country's approach to technology education in schools if you can, or how you wish to get involved. We aim to compile a comprehensive list of countries and the status of technology education in each, which will be shared in our upcoming newsletters.

Let's join hands in this global effort to harness the power of education and prepare our youth (of all ages, all generations) for a future where they can not only adapt but also lead in a world increasingly shaped by technology.

Together, we can make a difference.

Exponential Greetings from central Copenhagen today πŸ‘‘
